Get Yer Alberta Culture Days ON!! (Plus: Bonus "What's Wrong With 2017 Fashion?!" Rant)

Jenny Plays Nice (Part One)

Hello my party people!!

I will first tell you all about the grand opening of cSpace Sept. 29 - Oct. 1, 2017.

I will tell you about this because I foolishly volunteered to RUN A WRITING CENTRE (?!)* from 1-5pm on Friday, September 29th [4th floor, Alexandra Writers' Centre Society] and am begging you to come visit me. Quid pro quo: if you come to the opening, I'll stop raving about the writing centre/ artistic utopia that is this old school. Just look for the giant babydoll and I'm just behind there!

DISCLAIMER: Blogger isn't letting me post pictures, so imagination is required until uploading can happen... ENJOY!!

Ain't No Party Like a Colonosco-party?

YOU GUYS!!!

So much has happened since I was better than everyone by eating a super healthy diet [for 30 days]!

Part of the reason that I wanted to do the Whole30 elimination diet was because I have some weird wackiness happening in my digestive tract. I was sent to to the bum specialist and she didn't think I had much to worry about, "but let's book a colonoscopy just-in-case." JUST-IN-CASE. Obviously living in a country with Health Care For All is ideal, EXCEPT WHEN YOU CAN GET A COLONOSCOPY "JUST FOR FUN" BASICALLY.

So since my previous entry, I:
  • Went to Portland
  • Quit my job
  • Joined a writing society and am going to be a writer
  • Colonoscopy'd
And you know what? COLONOSCOPY trumps those other amazing stories!

Celebrating Canada Day as God Intended!

day 29

WITH SUSHI!!!

Hello [meat & veg] soup fans!

There's been some radio silence from me due to energy challenges/ stress levels at the ol' abode (just googled that to make sure I didn't say ol' commode by accident... although sometimes it can FEEL like we're in the shitter?).

Sunshine, Lollipops and "The Apnea" (Doo-doo-doo-doo!)

day 15...

Excuse me, I seem to have dropped my rose-coloured glasses...

So Blair survived me this week. No, you read that right. I was a HUGE pain in the tuckus! APPARENTLY the cult bloom is off the cult rose.*

More Than One Way To Skin a Chicken! (WEEK TWO!!)

day 9:

Even though I'm feeling really great, and have been enjoying the food we're cooking, I'll admit that today I looked in the fridge for lunch and thought, "I have no effing idea what to cook." So I was a tad lazy and just had my leftover steak from last night. Which turned out to be not-so-bad, as I hadn't CLOSELY read my Paleo slow cooker recipe which asks for a whole chicken (I can do that!) that you need to SKIN before stuffing and slow cooking.

Now, I'm getting more confident in the kitchen, and am willing to make some mistakes, but for the love of all things holy! Part of the reason I was a vegetarian is because I don't like handling raw meat (insert Ty joke here... insert Jay joke there after Ty's joke...) and that's also the reason I don't cook often. Because MEAT IS GROSS. It tastes wonderful (especially when cooked by others), but I don't like how we obtain it as a society in general. Also, while we would LOVE to eat grass-fed organic blur-blur-blerg, it's SO EXPENSIVE! But even after all THAT is said and done, there's still an anatomy question. Different cuts. Handling. Blech.

I had 2 choices: a) wait for Blair to get home and eat dinner at 10pm when it finished cooking, or b) put on my big girl panties and get it DONE. What would YOU do, fair reader?

I Am Going To Be So Amazingly Humble After This

day 5...

Hey guys! Just checking in to let you know:

1. I'm alive. It was touch and go there the first 5 days,* but I think Blair and I are starting to level out? I had a 24-hour headache which was unpleasant and I'm sure due to the detoxification of my body from the heroine-sugar everyone's slingin' these days!! Bonus: I went to my sister's house (way, way far away) DESPITE my Day of Headache, toughed it out, and had a great time!! Normally Migraine Jenny would be out for the day and night, so I was happy that I could choose to work around my baggage which was one of my goals: being able to opt out of things on my own terms rather than from physical/ mental blah-ness. (Hurrah!)

I was SUPER grumpy the next day (also perhaps because I had to go to work on a lovely spring day!) and posted this on Instagram:

This is How Whole30 Begins...

Not with a bang but a whimper. (I wonder if T.S. Eliot is rolling over in his dust particles right now?)

I Am Jack's Nervous Colon

Hello fellows!

If you got the Fight Club reference you get to double fist-pump! For the uninitiated, the main character (or MC as the blogger kids call them) finds a stack of old notebooks, each one dedicated to someone named Jack's body parts, organs included. A famous line in the movie is: "I am Jack's complete lack of surprise. I am Jack's broken heart."

Me appropriating those fictional notebooks works on many levels. The most obvious is that I probably DO have a nervous colon as the rest of my body is in a constant state of "resting anxiety" (I just made that up even though it's probably true). The slightly LESS obvious is this internal countdown/ external Roman calendar countdown to June 1st wherein I give up everything that tastes good in the universe, as well as telling everyone that has an email account that I'm doing this, which will make my fall harder (if it happens). Which was my intention, in a way, so I could be a guinea pig for others who are feeling poopy and want to make a change. But also pouting until I feel better.

[Way TMI] About Me

So here's my baseline for the Whole30 experimentation 2017.

 Age: 39

(Physical age: 7 year coma patient?)

In a nutshell: I was born on April 27, 1978. (This puts me at the tail-end of Gen X.) My parents were amazing and for the first 3 years and 10 months we lived in a relative Garden of Eden. The Fall came in the form of a blonde cherub named Kathleen-not-Katie. We fought like rock-stars in an Oasis tribute-band, but eventually grew to love each other.

Viva la Spinning Jenny Revolution!*

Friends, family, countrymen,

This blog was previously devoted to learning how to write/ sharing my writing with a few friends (called the PUBlishers who met in a pub 2-3 times total), but I've dropped that ball, I'm afraid. To encourage my writing side, I am writing to the internet to observe and record the amazing transformation that I plan to implement regarding my eating habits (cure everything wrong with you with food!), my entertainment choices (TV, movies, music, reading, writing, dancing [jk], social activism, social-izing, dining etc.), moving houses (god help us all) and current creative outlets.

It will be diary-esque, in that I don't promise a daily entry, but will share any ups and downs I may have whilst attempting many regime changes.

My main focuses (foci?) are the four fun groups^:

Dear Diary [Writing]

June 20, 2016

In This Moment:

This moment I'm trying to curb my enthusiasm for a couple Sia songs/ videos. And by curb I mean not give in to some OCD-like impulses I have to put "Chandelier" or "Elastic Heart" on repeat and shed a tear every time I watch the latter....
